Another from the exhibits at Gem City but this time focusing on one exhibit. For my friend down in GA that is planning on coming up to go prospecting. :D

Yep, especially up around Whiteside Mt, there are grossular? Garnets, green that is, that they have found the size of large fist.

Grossular is a type, usuaily dark rusty and not too transparent. But many can be green if there is the right combo of elements in it.

Actually, Zoisite is a calcium aluminium hydroxy sorosilicate belonging to the epidote group of minerals.

It's not green ruby. :)

Then tell that to the museum since it looks like they're calling the clear covering on the slab zoisite rather than the green stuff.
I know corundum comes in green, and corundum is ruby.

Corundom is a family of minerals - same as quartz - if it's red, it's ruby; any other color, it's sapphire. Zoisite is another family. The rare tanzanite is the crystaline purple/blue variety.
